Social Security office closure eliminates vital services to south side residents

A chorus of civic leaders and community members recently denounced plans by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to close its Mitchell Street field office on March 22. The agency is closing the office at S. 7th and W. Historic Mitchell Streets over ongoing maintenance and safety concerns. Residents will be required to visit offices at 310 W. Wisconsin Avenue, 8455 W. Layton Avenue, 6300 W. Fond du Lac Avenue. or 5020 W. North Avenue to conduct in-person business. Wisconsin voters express doubt of Foxconn deal in latest Marquette Law School Poll

A new Marquette Law School Poll finds Wisconsin voters divided in their opinions on the value of the Foxconn Technology Group’s planned flat-panel-display factory in the state. Forty-nine percent of voters think that the state is paying more in incentives than the Foxconn plant is worth, while 38 percent think that the plant will provide at least as much value as the state’s investment.
