Plans move forward to host inaugural Hip-Hop Week MKE this summer

The Common Council’s Community and Economic Development Committee recommend approval for creating Hip-Hop Week MKE, an official week of hip-hop related events. Co-sponsored by Council members Russell W. Stamper, II, Ashanti Hamilton, Milele A. Coggs, José G. Pérez, Cavalier “Chevy” Johnson, and Tony Zielinski, the proposal will be taken up by the full Common Council on January 17. Shorewood House offers fresh start program for no-cost addiction treatment

Shorewood House launched a program for the New Year, through which it will offer eight women 30 days of residential addiction treatment from February through March with no out-of-pocket costs, excluding medications. This is a first-of-its-kind offering that underscores the importance of women supporting other women as they recover and rebuild their lives. Shorewood House is encouraging women who are looking to obtain whole wellness treatment for their substance use disorder to apply. Third Space Brewing, the award-winning Milwaukee craft brewery, recently announced its next major production expansion as well as plans for a wholesale distribution partnership. Wisconsin youth prisons to close in wake of unconstitutional and inhumane conditions

The Walker administration and the Department of Corrections announced on January 4 that they will be closing the Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake state-run youth correctional facilities in Irma. The decision comes following an injunction secured by the ACLU of Wisconsin and Juvenile Law Center through a class action civil rights lawsuit in federal court centered on the use of solitary confinement, pepper spray, shackling, and strip searches of children.
