A 2006 Greenfield High School graduate is serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island, and credits his success in the Navy to many of the lessons learned growing up in Milwaukee. Health Department reports Mosquitos test positive again this year for West Nile Virus

The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) has confirmed that 2018 mosquito surveillance in the county has indicated the presence of West Nile virus. The mosquitos were collected and tested by the University of Wisconsin – Madison Department of Entomology to conduct seasonal West Nile surveillance. “A positive mosquito test serves as a reminder to all county residents that it is time to take steps to protect themselves against mosquito bites,” said Angie Hagy, Director of Disease Control and Environmental Health. Dr. Murray Blackmore awarded $1.6M grant for research on spinal cord injury studies

The National Institutes of Health awarded a $1.6 million R01 grant to Dr. Murray Blackmore, associate professor of biomedical sciences in the College of Health Sciences at Marquette University, to continue his groundbreaking research on spinal cord injury and paralysis. Wisconsin taxpayers on hook for 40% of risk with Foxconn plant
