Federal Government rejects Milwaukee County’s 287g bid after community outcry

On November 14 the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) rejected an application to give Milwaukee County Sheriff’s deputies authority to separate immigrant families under the 287g program. DHS did, however, approve 287g applications from Waukesha County and 22 other jurisdictions nationwide. Milwaukee Independent among achievement winners honored by Downtown BID

Milwaukee Downtown (BID #21) recognized the Milwaukee Independent with a special award during its Downtown Achievement Awards program, held as part of its 2017 annual meeting on September 28. Over 250 downtown stakeholders gathered to hear accomplishments and upcoming initiatives, as well as celebrate the BID’s 20th year of operation. “Business improvement district” is a generic term applied to a type of special assessment district that involves a group of property owners and businesses within a designated area.
