Federal financing commitment clears long delayed Couture to move forward

Developers Rick Barrett and Tan Lo of Barrett Lo Visionary Development announced on November 2 that they has been invited to submit an Application for Firm Commitment for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) loan guaranty program. The loan guaranty will be used to support construction of The Couture, the 44-story, 700,000 square foot, mixed-use skyscraper that will be built on County land along Milwaukee’s lakefront. Temporary LEDs installed to demonstrate concept for Light the Hoan Bridge initiative

Milwaukee residents got a glimpse for three nights of what the Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge would look like illuminated, when Light the Hoan temporarily installed connected LED lighting on November 1. In collaboration with Signify, a world leader in lighting, representatives from the organization have been visiting Milwaukee since late October. Health screening program for Milwaukee’s Hispanic community gets $1M in funding

Sixteenth Street Community Health Center was awarded $1 million in funding from the Wisconsin Partnership Program at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health for its project, “Improving Health Outcomes by Proactively Integrating Social Determinants Screening into Primary Care Practice.” The project’s ultimate goal is to reduce housing instability and address healthy inequities among Sixteenth Street’s patients and community, who are primarily Latino and live well below the federal poverty line. Violence Against Journalists: Media condemns continued anti-press rhetoric

More than 200 journalists condemned President Trump’s “sustained pattern” of attacks on the free press in an open letter dated Thursday, describing his behavior as “un-American and utterly unlawful and unseemly for the President of the United States and leader of the free world.” Meredith Wheeler, a former ABC News producer in the 1970s and 1980s, organized the dozens of journalists to sign the letter.
