The ACLU of Wisconsin issued the following statement on June 1, pertaining to the use of excessive force by law enforcement officers against citizens participating in protests following the murders of George Floyd in Minnesota and Joel Acevedo in Milwaukee. The Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) announced on May 26 that it will resume fare collection, and front door boarding on all buses and on paratransit vehicles providing Transit Plus rides starting at 4:00 a.m. on June 1, 2020. MCTS is recommending that riders who are medically able wear a face mask or face covering over their nose and mouth while on board. Due to the pandemic this year, Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) will recognize seniors with a weeklong celebration of virtual graduation ceremonies beginning June 1. Wisconsin could lose National Guard virus workers due to the Trump administration’s order ending deployments on June 24, just one day before thousands of citizen solders would qualify for education and retirement benefits.
