Audio: How Melissa Goins helps build a Milwaukee community

“If you want to go fast, go by yourself. If you want to go far, take your village.” – African Proverb

Milwaukee leaders, residents, and community stakeholders gathered for a special groundbreaking event on April 4, to celebrate a day that had been envisioned for close to a decade. Led by Melissa Goins, Maures Development Group and J. Jeffers & Company will be redeveloping the old Garfield School into affordable apartments, and construct new a mix-use building that will be the new home for America’s Black Holocaust Museum in Bronzeville. The site will occupy most of the city block at North 4th Street and West North Avenue.

This audio segment is a recording of the public presentation, and the speakers who included Melissa Goins, Wyman Winston, Mayor Tom Barrett, Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, Brad Pruitt, Virgil Cameron, and Dasha Kelly Hamilton.
