Photo Essay: 88Nine gifts gigantic mural to Central City

88Nine RadioMilwaukee and Penfield Children’s Center celebrated the completion of the Near West Side’s newest mural on September 14.

As part its 10th anniversary celebration of being on air this year, 88Nine Radio Milwaukee wanted to extend its vision of community in Milwaukee through visual art with a mural project. Two sites were chosen on blank walls to host the colorful displays, aimed at spurring neighborhood conversations, at the Var Gallery in Walker’s Point and Penfield Children’s Center on Near West Side. The call for entries brought in a design by artist Stacey Williams-Ng, which won with the concept of a school of fish swimming on sound waves.

These images cover a two-week period of art production, as Williams-Ng installed her mural on the side of the Penfield Children’s Center on North 26th Street, and includes the public unveiling event with 88Nine.
