The Wisconsin Dental Association is donating the personal protective equipment (PPE) that would have been used for the large-scale event to Wisconsin Emergency Management to help medical workers curb the spread of coronavirus. The organization decided to postpone the June 2020 WDA and WDA Foundation Mission of Mercy charitable clinic due to the COVID-19 public health crisis. Governor Tony Evers formally directed Department of Health Services (DHS) Secretary-designee Andrea Palm on March 24 to issue a Safer at Home order that prohibits all nonessential travel, with some exceptions as clarified and defined in the order, to stem the continued spread of COVID-19 in the state. Health officials with the City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) confirmed Milwaukee’s first presumptive case of novel coronavirus, COVID-19 on March 13. The individual reportedly contracted the illness from close contact to a confirmed COVID-19 case.
