The Kubala Washatko Architects (TKWA) of Cedarburg was recently awarded its second major school project in China. The announcement of TKWA’s selection to design the new Xiang Lake Academy in Hangzhou follows successful completion in 2015 of the TKWA-designed Zhongguancun No. 3 Elementary School in Beijing, a school widely recognized as a model for education reform in China. Annual denim pants display to raise awareness about sexual assault

Mayor Tom Barrett recently called for community-wide attention to the month-long effort that is raising awareness for sexual assault and supporting survivors. During April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, jeans will hang from the light poles along Wisconsin Ave from 3rd Street west to The Calling Sculpture by the Milwaukee Art Museum. Restoration to begin on Humboldt Park’s 125 year-old lagoon

Thanks to the efforts of volunteers and a $4,100 “Sweet Water” grant from the Southeastern Wisconsin Watersheds Trust, Humboldt Park’s 125 year-old lagoon will be getting a little makeover beginning later this spring. The nonprofit volunteer group Humboldt Park Friends (HPF) is one of 14 groups receiving grants from Sweet Water this year. Members of HPF have been working with the Milwaukee County Parks Department and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to restore the four-acre lagoon in the center of the 73-acre park located in the heart of Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood. Sherman Phoenix project gets $250K from Milwaukee County and WEDC grant

Milwaukee County has received a $250,000 state grant to support construction of The Sherman Phoenix, an entrepreneurial and wellness hub in Milwaukee’s Sherman Park neighborhood. Milwaukee Pride recently announced that Diverse & Resilient was picked as the 2018 beneficiary of the PrideFest Plus One campaign, a fundraising program that supports local LGBTQ health and wellness.
