August 7 was Purple Heart Day, and Milwaukee hosted a special commemoration at the War Memorial Center in honor of those wounded and killed in service to our country. The “Purple Heart Day of Honor 2021” was held on Friday, August 6 in the Veterans Courtyard. Governor Tony Evers visited the Riverwalk Commons Pickleball Courts in Milwaukee on August 3 to announce that $10 million of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds would be used to provide grants to bolster Wisconsin’s tourism industry. The grants would also support local governments and tourism-entity nonprofits for tourism-related investment projects that help promote, maintain, or have a substantial capital component. Milwaukee County formally establishes “Right to Counsel” for residents facing eviction or foreclosure

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley signed the “Right to Counsel” ordinance into law on July 19 outside the County Courthouse, in an effort to assist local residents facing eviction or foreclosure. Right to Counsel Milwaukee (RCTM) establishes a pilot program to provide no-cost legal representation for residents facing eviction or foreclosure. Since the onset of the global pandemic, Milwaukee County has allocated over $30 million through stimulus funding to provide eviction prevention, rental assistance, and mortgage assistance.
