Milwaukee Chinese Community Center will present the fifth Milwaukee Dragon Boat Festival at Milwaukee County’s Veterans Park on August 12. The event showcases Chinese culture and tradition with dragon boat racing as the main attraction. Other highlights include the Lion Dance, cultural exhibits, and performances of traditional dance, Chinese folk music, and martial arts. Authentic Chinese food will be available for purchase. Boerner Botanical Gardens will host the world-class lantern festival “China Lights: The Magic Returns” from September 22 to October 22 in Hales Corners. The 2017 festival will feature nearly 50 handmade, brilliantly lighted, giant-sized lantern displays, two stages for Chinese folk-culture performances, two dining areas, and six new food vendors with a variety of Asian and Western menu options. The Milwaukee Art Museum joins prominent institutions across the country in celebrating the 150th anniversary of Frank Lloyd Wright’s birthday this summer. Frank Lloyd Wright: Buildings for the Prairie is on view July 28–October 15 and presents a selection of the renowned architect’s designs from the Wasmuth Portfolio alongside related pieces of his furniture, metal work and stained glass.
