A recent economic impact study conducted by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Center for Economic Development (CED) concluded that local areas with some of the strongest job growth and the largest numbers of job opportunities will no longer be accessible by transit if Milwaukee County Transit System’s (MCTS) JobLines Routes 6 and 61 are discontinued at the end of December. Nearly half of the films being screened at the 10th Annual Milwaukee Film Festival are directed by women, a 19% increase in the amount of feature films produced by women in a single year. In 2017, women comprised only 27.73% of feature film directors at the festival and 37.84% of directors overall. The 10th Annual Milwaukee Film Festival showcases 142 films directed by women, out of 304 total films. Milwaukee Pride, Inc. recently announced it will take stewardship of the celebrated Wisconsin LGBT History Project, in honor of National LGBT History Month and the approaching WorldPride NYC and Stonewall 50 celebration. The Project, which originated as a PrideFest tent exhibit in 1995, is now the state’s largest digital collection of local LGBT history. By unanimous vote, the City of Milwaukee Common Council will advance a Complete Streets policy that will help make streets safer for people walking, taking transit, biking or driving. Sponsored by ten Alderpersons, the policy was developed by the Department of Public Works in a partnership with residents and community organizations to improve health, safety, and mobility for the people of Milwaukee.
