Gateway mural by Emma Daisy Gertel will blossom in Westown this summer

Milwaukee Downtown BID #21 and the Downtown Placemaking Task Force have commissioned local artist Emma Daisy Gertel for the new Westown mural at the northeast corner of James Lovell Street and Wisconsin Avenue. The high-impact, west-facing canvas will feature an urban garden as its subject matter, a metaphor for the resurgence in Westown. Installation will begin in late-June following community engagement sessions. Countdown to Rise! as Milwaukee’s PrideFest honors 50th anniversary of Stonewall Riots

PrideFest Milwaukee 2019 kicks off the summer festival season with a four-day weekend celebration of LGBTQ history and heritage from June 6 to 9 at Henry W. Maier Festival Park. This year’s line-up includes Kim Petras, Greyson Chance, Dragapalooza! featuring Trixie Mattel, and over 100 LGBTQ artists on eight stages. Satisfy My Soul: Isaac Wells and his journey from homeless shelters to top national honors

Isaac Wells never knew his father, and his loving mother suffers from the debilitating affects of schizophrenia. That condition left him without a stable location to call home for periods of his youth. But Isaac graduated with honors on May 22 from Ronald Reagan High School. The Milwaukee native was also recently named a 2019 Presidential Scholar, only one of 161 in the country to be awarded the honor. Sharon and Larry Adams hosted a celebration to mark the start of construction for Adams Garden Park on May 23. Located at 1836 W. Fond du Lac Avenue the new development showcased several local environmental organizations that will be tenant partners in the Adams Garden Park. Economic Engine: Metro Milwaukee fuels revenue growth for Wisconsin’s tourism industry

VISIT Milwaukee released final statistics from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism indicating strong growth in the tourism market for 2018 on May 6. The data shows that the Greater Milwaukee area continues to be the state’s largest tourism market, accounting for 26 percent of total tourism economic impact to the state.
