Art exhibit revisits the Shabbat custom of rest and renewal on the Seventh Day

As traditional as lighting Friday night candles and as modern as unplugging the computer, Shabbat customs have evolved over the generations but remain cherished touchstones of Judaism. Thirty international artists explore these ever-changing opportunities for rest and renewal in The Seventh Day: Revisiting Shabbat, opening September 13 at Jewish Museum Milwaukee. Tom Fruin artwork to crown renovated Coakley Brothers building

Coakley Brothers is bringing back its iconic rooftop water tower with a colorful, contemporary replica to pronounce the “gateway” to Walker’s Point and the growing design district. Coakley Brothers has commissioned internationally-renowned, Brooklyn-based artist, Tom Fruin, to construct one of his signature mosaic sculptures of art at its 400 S. 5th Street business headquarters. Almost 20,000 pounds of Wisconsin Cheese donated to Houston recovery

Federal grant to fund Haggerty Museum of Art’s place-based water atlas

Marquette University’s Haggerty Museum of Art was awarded a $146,404 federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services for a public art project by artist Mary Miss that creates place-based experiences exploring water systems throughout Milwaukee’s urban landscape. Sierra Club ranks UWM among top environmental universities

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is the state’s leading sustainable university, according to a recent ranking by the Sierra Club. The nonprofit environmental organization named UWM to its Top 50 Cool Schools 2017 list.
