Plan to improve water quality in Milwaukee river basin gets EPA approval

Efforts to improve water quality throughout the Milwaukee basin moved forward with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approval of the Milwaukee River Basin Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) plan. The approved TMDL plan aims to reduce phosphorus and other pollutants entering the Menomonee, Kinnickinnic and Milwaukee rivers as well as the Milwaukee Harbor Estuary. “The development phase of this project has spanned more than five years, building on the previous watershed work conducted in the basin and can now move toward implementation,” said Kevin Kirsch, a DNR water resources engineer, and manager of the project. Artists Working in Education to begin creative storytelling project at Mitchell Street Library

Envisioning a unique hub for creative expression, Artists Working in Education (AWE), in partnership with Milwaukee Public Library, announced on March 22 that they are finalizing plans for the implementation of a $150,000 “Our Town” grant from the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) which will fund Gathering Art, Stories and Place, a project that will be housed at the Milwaukee Public Library Mitchell Street Branch. Full funding secured for Lake Michigan restoration initiative
