The South Side Bicycle Day event Ciclovía MKE will feature car-free streets in Walker’s Point.

Ciclovía MKE, a public event featuring a nearly two-mile route of car-free streets, will take place this Sunday, June 12 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Alderman José G. Pérez and his family will attend the event’s festivities and participate in the bicycle ride. Alderman Pérez will also speak during the event program scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at S. Cesar E. Chavez Drive and W. Washington Street.

“Ciclovía will bring the neighborhood together to exercise and socialize in a safe, fun environment,” Alderman Pérez said. “It’s a family-friendly event with lots of activities for kids and adults to enjoy, and I hope to see many of my neighbors in attendance.”

This year marks Ciclovía MKE’s 2nd Annual South Side Bicycle Day, joining efforts to promote bicycling as a tool to live healthy and happy lives. South Side Bicycle Day will provide free children’s helmets and will raffle off more than 600 bicycles and bike locks.

The route closed to motor vehicle traffic will stretch from S. Cesar E. Chavez Drive, down W. Washington Street to S. 3rd Street in Walker’s Point. At the event, community members can enjoy a variety of sports, games, food, art and music from local performers, businesses and organizations.
