The Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) launched a new bus route that connects residents with jobs at Amazon’s new fulfillment center in Oak Creek. Route 81 (Amazon-Oak Creek) starts service on October 11, operating seven days a week between the intersections of N. 35th Street & W. Fond du Lac Avenue in Milwaukee and S. 13th Street & W. The all-virtual 2020 Milwaukee Film Festival, presented by Associated Bank, will feature 197 film titles from across the globe and around the corner – and this year’s event is more accessible than ever, the nonprofit announced on October 5. Viewers can take part in the Festival, which runs from October 15 to 29, through their computer, tablet, smartphone, or TV. Philanthropist and former Milwaukee County executive Chris Abele recently donated $500,000 to the Milwaukee Area Technical College Foundation to support Milwaukee Area Technical College’s flagship MATC Promise programs, which provide last-dollar free-tuition scholarships for qualified students. An anonymous alumnus also donated $125,000 from the JPG Fund at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. The MATC Promise is a public-private partnership with donors filling the gap between what financial aid covers and the cost of tuition.
