Fast-Food workers seeing union rights and $15 minimum wage arrested at Milwaukee strike

More than 25 cooks and cashiers were arrested along with local elected and community leaders on October 3 during a strike by more than 200 Milwaukee fast-food workers demanding the right to a union at McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s and other fast-food chains. With huge letters that spelled U-N-I-O-N, and chanting, “When workers rights are under attack, we stand up and fight back,” fast-food workers, elected leaders and community members shut down a local McDonald’s store during the lunchtime rush, blocking doors and taking over the drive thru area. Second Sculpture Milwaukee artwork finds permanent home in Historic Third Ward

Sculpture Milwaukee, an outdoor urban sculpture experience that debuted last year along Wisconsin Avenue, is continuing to make a permanent impact on downtown Milwaukee. An anonymous donor of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation provided a grant to the Historic Third Ward Association to acquire Michelle Grabner’s Untitled, 2017. Untitled, 2017 was installed on August 21 at Chicago and Water streets, near the scenic Milwaukee RiverWalk. This is the second sculpture purchased from Sculpture Milwaukee 2017 and installed in a permanent, public space for the downtown Milwaukee community to enjoy. Officials with Komatsu Mining Corp. announced the company’s plans to build a new state-of-the-art headquarters and manufacturing campus in Milwaukee – a project with the potential to create more than 400 jobs.
