Immigrants in Milwaukee won a huge victory on December 12, when the Fire and Police Commission (FPC) Policy Committee voted to endorse Voces de la Frontera’s recommended changes to the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) Policy of Immigration (SOP 130). The leader of the Wisconsin National Guard offered his resignation on December 9, after the results were made public from an in-depth federal investigation into how the guard handled sexual assault and harassment allegations. Governor Tony Evers called for and received the resignation of Major General Don Dunbar, after reviewing the report on how the Wisconsin National Guard botched the handling of assault and harassment allegations. Senior Wisconsin National Guard and state leaders joined families and friends in welcoming 190 Soldiers from the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry Regiment back to Wisconsin on November 29 — exactly one year after the battalion’s sendoff ceremony at Lambeau Field. Next phase of renovation for Victory Over Violence Park expected in time for 2020 DNC

The City of Milwaukee’s Environmental Collaboration Office (ECO) and the Historic King Drive Business Improvement District shared updated plans on November 27 for the renovation of Victory Over Violence Park in Bronzeville. Victory Over Violence Park was created in the 1990s in partnership with the local nonprofit Career Youth Development (CYD), formerly housed in the building next to the park.
