Wisconsin sign language interpreters and those who use their services celebrated on June 26 when the bipartisan Assembly Bill 250 (AB 250) passed both houses of the state legislature. AB 250 provides for a more appropriate scope of practice for sign language interpreters in the state, gives more protections for members of the Deaf community, and helps provide the level of access that members of the Deaf community in Wisconsin deserve. On the occasion of June being African-American Music Appreciation Month, Alderman Khalif J. Rainey felt it was time to honor a major jazz figure from the city. The late Al Jarreau was born as Alwin Lopez Jarreau in Milwaukee on March 12, 1940 and honed his musical talents at Lincoln High School. MTO mural and MCTS bus shelter art series add fresh wave of color to Milwaukee’s summer scenery

The popular Bus Shelter Art Project from the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) kicked off its second season recently, coinciding with a secret mural painted by the internationally acclaimed street artist, MTO. Eight new pieces of artwork on bus shelters are in the process of being installed around Milwaukee. Milwaukee Film to install 1925 Wurlitzer pipe organ as part of restoration for historic Oriental Theatre

Milwaukee Film recently secured a 1925 Wurlitzer pipe organ that will be installed during its ongoing restoration work at the Oriental Theatre. The Wurlitzer is a three-manual instrument, Style 260, Opus 1097 and was obtained through Jeff Weiler, a renowned expert in pipe organ restoration. According to Weiler, the organ’s rarity, size, and originality contribute to the instrument’s importance. Bud Selig and Aviva Kempner to highlight screening of film about baseball and espionage

Milwaukee Film will welcome Milwaukee Brewers Founder Allan H. “Bud” Selig to the Oriental Theatre for a special screening of “The Spy Behind Home Plate,” a documentary about enigmatic ballplayer Morris “Moe” Berg.
