Budget crisis from state tax drain forces Milwaukee County to propose cuts for public bus services

Milwaukee County reached a fiscal crisis point this year. Over the past decade, County taxpayers have increased income and sales tax payments to the State by $355 million, yet shared revenue and other funding from the state has declined or remained flat over the same time period. County Executive Chris Abele and County Supervisors have been strong supporters of the transit system. Unfortunately, limitations in state law have caused Milwaukee County to effectively reach the cap on the amount it can collect from property and sales tax. State and Federal transit support has been stagnant, especially in comparison to...

August 7 was designed as Purple Heart Day in 1932, to encourage people to pay respects to fallen soldiers, and to thank them for their service to the nation. It has been under two weeks since 500 Lime scooters legally emerged on Milwaukee streets, but the city has already restricted expansion of the test program and could scrap eScooters entirely due to rider behavior. Milwaukee moves forward with a pilot study for dockless electric scooters

Following Governor Evers signing into state law the authorization for local governments to regulate the rental and operation of dockless scooters, the City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) launched a pilot study. Dockless scooter systems are privately operated and consist of self-service electric scooters made available to users on a short-term basis. Dockless scooters do not require a permanent or fixed location to reserve or return a scooter. “This pilot is yet another example of the City of Milwaukee exploring opportunities to create a more robust, holistic transportation network,” said Commissioner of Public Works Jeff Polenske. “In...
