The Friends of Hank Aaron State Trail will welcome more than 1,300 people to the Menomonee River Valley on August 11 for the 19th Annual Hank Aaron State Trail 5K, a Trail’s signature fundraising event to enhance the Trail and send more than 100 kids to Bike Adventure Camp each summer. New study confirms that tobacco marketing targets Milwaukee’s minority neighborhoods

Tobacco products in Milwaukee are more aggressively marketed in stores in African-American and Latino neighborhoods than in white ones, according to a study led by a public health researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Results are similar to other studies showing that communities with lower incomes, lower educational attainment and more minority residents are targeted with significantly more tobacco promotion. Bird cooperates to resolve E-Scooter restrictions and offer access to underserved communities

The City of Milwaukee and Bird announced on August 6 that they will cooperate to establish a framework for e-scooter sharing programs to be implemented throughout the city. Bird and the City expressed their shared goals of creating a community that embraces innovation and includes more transportation options. Consumer Group calls on EPA to stop rollback of “Clean Car” fuel standards

The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration recently proposed rolling back the “Clean Car” fuel economy standards, which, if fully implemented, could eliminate more than 2 billion metric tons of emissions and save consumers significant money at the gas pump. Wisconsin counties lack constitutional policies for cooperation with ICE

After weeks of national outcry over the separation of families at the border and other anti-immigrant measures, American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin research has revealed that policies in most Wisconsin counties could lead local authorities to illegally detain people when Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) requests it, without a judicial warrant. Only six counties have policies that correctly make it clear that local law enforcement may not detain people based simply on a request from immigration authorities.
